The Isle of Man has an excellent telecoms and power infrastructure which has benefitted from hundreds of millions of pounds worth of public and private sector investment in recent years. It is this infrastructure which has helped provide the foundation for this Island's success as a major centre for e-Business activities.

Telecoms Infrastructure
The Island offers a world-class telecommunications infrastructure and services, which cater for the full range of voice and data communications requirements of both residents and businesses. Manx Telecom and Sure Isle of Man are the major telecoms providers in the Isle of Man. Both Manx Telecom and Sure Isle of Man provide services under telecommunications licenses granted by the Isle of Man Communications Commission. Additionally, a number of ISP's and IT companies provide corporate network and related services.

Manx Telecom has invested over £110 million in designing and building the Island's telecom infrastructure, over the last 10 years. Sure Isle of Man has invested £25 million since 2007 and continue to invest each year to help deliver a new generation of services.

The Isle of Man offers 100% broadband availability to households offering speeds of up to 40Mbps downstream and up to 2Mbps upstream.

Off-Island Connectivity
Carrier class connectivity to and from the Island is provided via five discrete fibre optic cables which allow the creation of high bandwidth fibre optic rings connecting the Island with the North of England and Ireland. These links can employ 'self-healing' SDH loop technology which guarantees that if a fault occurs at any part of the link, voice and data traffic is seamlessly re-routed in the other direction. Similar resilient ring technology is also used on the Island's delivery networks.

Due to improving technology which is delivering more and more progressive telecommunications equipment, the transmission capacity available to the Island can be numbered in terabytes, effectively future-proofing the Island's telecommunications needs.

Data Hosting
The Island also has a sophisticated data hosting infrastructure served by five state of the art data-hosting centres owned and operated by Manx Telecom, Wi-Manx, Domicilium, Continent 8 and Netcetera.

Satellite Uplink/Download facilities
SES the global satellite provider has set up an office on the Isle of Man to explore the opportunities of creating an Uplink service for European Satellite Channels in late 2014. The main board of the company recently approved establishing a facility on the Island which would allow Satellite channel owners to base their channels on the Island to take advantage of the favourable taxation regime. With a Global fleet of 54 geostationary satellites that are complemented by a network of teleports and offices located around the globe, SES are a world-leading satellite operator, providing reliable and secure satellite communications solutions to broadcast, telecom, corporate and government customers worldwide. This far-reaching infrastructure enables their customers to reach 99% of the world's population and places SES at the heart of the global communications chain.

Electricity
The Isle of Man is totally self-sufficient for its power needs. In fact, with four power stations the Island currently supplies enough power to sell their surplus to the UK. The Island is also committed to power diversity, renewable energy and reaching the Kyoto and Rio targets for CO emmissions.
